For early crops, sow in pots or trays on a windowsill or in a greenhouse using a good quality compost, cover seeds with 38mm of it. Germination takes 7-14 days. Grow on planting outside or protecting cloches until frost risk has passed, 20cm between plants. Alternatively sow direct from late Apirl into prepared warm, moist soil at a depth of 50mm, thinning as necessary to 20cm between plants. Allow 60cm between rows. Grows best in rich well prepared soil in a sunny pposition Water well during dry weather. For winter use pull plants and allow seed to dry in a cool airy place. Dried seeds for winter use should be stored in airtight jars.
